What Is Playertek / STATSports?
STATSports is the company behind two GPS tracking product lines: STATSports Apex (professional and elite club hardware) and Playertek (a more accessible consumer/semi-pro line). Both use wearable GPS pods that players wear in a vest during training and matches, collecting data on distance, speed, acceleration, deceleration, and heart rate.
The technology is the standard in elite football — used by the majority of Premier League clubs, Champions League participants, and international teams. The data quality is genuinely unmatched in the market.
Key Features
GPS Hardware: The Apex pods use multi-band GPS for high accuracy positioning. Data is captured at 10Hz and covers total distance, high-intensity running, sprints, max speed, accelerations/decelerations, and player load. Injury risk indicators (acute:chronic workload ratio) are built in.
Coaching Software: The web dashboard and app show live tracking during sessions, post-session analysis, and trend data across weeks and months. Team comparisons and individual thresholds are configurable.
Playertek (Consumer): The entry-level Playertek product brings GPS tracking to semi-pro and ambitious amateur clubs at a lower hardware cost per unit, with a simplified software interface. A good stepping stone for clubs exploring tracking without elite-level investment.
Pricing
Hardware costs are the primary expense — Apex pods require significant per-player investment. Playertek pods are more accessible. Software subscriptions sit on top. This makes total cost of ownership considerably higher than software-only alternatives.
Who Should Use Playertek / STATSports?
Elite and semi-elite clubs for whom raw tracking data quality is non-negotiable. If you're working with performance scientists or sports scientists who need granular load data, STATSports is the market standard. For clubs where software-led coaching workflows and lower cost are priorities, 360Player offers strong tracking features without the hardware investment. You'll likely still need a separate club management tool alongside Playertek.
